About treatment method

About medical treatment period of new coronavirus infectious disease

Those who are found to be positive for the new coronavirus infection will need medical treatment for the following period according to their symptoms, regardless of whether or not they have been notified of the outbreak and whether or not they have been registered with the Tokyo Positive Person Registration Center.
(1) Symptomatic person
(a) Excluding those who are hospitalized or in a facility for the elderly <br>The treatment period is 7 days, with the day on which symptoms appear as the "day of onset" and the next day as day 1.

If 7 days have passed from the date of onset of symptoms and 24 hours have passed since the symptoms subsided, the treatment can be canceled from the 8th day.
(Example) Date of onset April 1 → Treatment end date April 8

However, until 10 days have passed, the risk of infection remains, so please check your own health condition, avoid using places with a high risk of infection, avoid eating together, etc., and wear a mask voluntarily. Please take thorough infection prevention actions.

If there is a significant change in symptoms, the treatment period may be extended. In that case, please contact the "Sumida Ward Corona-Positive Consultation Center", which is informed in the short message.

(b) Persons who are hospitalized or in a facility for the elderly <br>The treatment period is 10 days, with the day on which symptoms appear as the "day of onset" and the next day as day 1.

If 10 days have passed since the day of onset, and 72 hours have passed since the symptoms subsided, the treatment can be canceled from the 11th day.
(Example) Date of onset April 1 → Treatment end date April 11

* A negative PCR test is not required when canceling medical treatment.

(2) Asymptomatic person (asymptomatic pathogen carrier)
As for the medical treatment period, if 7 days have passed since the sample collection date is day 0, the medical treatment can be canceled on the 8th day.

In addition to the above, if it is confirmed that the test kit is negative on the 5th day, the standby can be canceled after 5 days (6th day). In addition, if a negative test is confirmed on the 6th day, it is possible to cancel the standby on the same day (after the test result is confirmed).

However, until 7 days have passed, the risk of infection remains, so please check your own health condition, avoid using places with a high risk of infection, avoid eating together, etc., and wear a mask voluntarily. Please take thorough infection prevention actions.

how to spend time at home

1. Take your temperature twice a day and monitor your physical condition carefully.

2. About going out and contact with people around you

If a symptomatic person has passed 24 hours after their symptoms subsided, or if they are asymptomatic, be sure to wear a mask when going out or interacting with others for a short period of time. Do not use public transportation when traveling. On the premise of thoroughly taking voluntary infection prevention actions, it is okay to go out for the minimum necessary amount, such as shopping for groceries.

3. If you live with someone, please be aware of the following points

Avoid sharing towels at home, separate spaces as much as possible, and ventilate regularly. Please practice cough etiquette, wash your hands with soap and running water, and disinfect your hands with alcohol. Sanitize high-touch common areas with 70% alcohol or sodium hypochlorite. Place the tissue you used to blow your nose into a plastic bag, seal it, and dispose of it immediately.

About identification of close contacts

Please contact the facility you belong to (workplace) or a close contact person from the person who tested positive.
If it is possible to confirm that the person is related to a medical institution or welfare facility based on the report of the outbreak or the contact from the facility, the public health center will conduct an investigation.

About life after the end of the medical treatment period

It is not considered contagious to other people. However, there are cases of re-infection, so please continue to take infection control measures (washing hands with soap, disinfecting hands with alcohol, wearing a mask, etc.) and pay attention to your health.

About the certificate of the medical treatment period of the new coronavirus infectious disease

Patients who have been diagnosed with a new coronavirus infection at a medical institution and who have been treated at the Sumida Ward Public Health Center, who have completed their medical treatment, can submit a "Certificate of Home Medical Treatment" and a "Notice of Lifting of Work Restrictions, etc." (a document stating the period of work restrictions) will be issued and sent by mail.

For close contacts

Waiting period (health observation period)

Please refrain from going out unnecessarily and non-urgently and stay at home for 5 days from the day after you came into contact with a patient with COVID-19.
In addition, using an antigen qualitative test kit, negative tests are confirmed on the second and third days, respectively, and if there are no symptoms, the waiting period can be canceled from the third day.
*In addition, please purchase an antigen qualitative test kit at a pharmacy to cancel the waiting period. You cannot use the free PCR test project or the antigen qualitative test kit distribution project for close contacts in Tokyo.

When a family member living together becomes positive

If you are living with a family member, please refrain from going out and monitor your health for 5 days from the day after the isolation, on the condition that you have quarantined at home (anti-infection).

What is home isolation (infection control)?

Infection control measures such as wearing a mask, washing hands, disinfecting hands, avoiding sharing supplies, disinfecting, etc., to the extent possible in daily life.
Until the end of the medical treatment period for those who tested positive, please continue to pay attention to changes in your physical condition, avoid using high-risk places and eating together, and wear a mask to prevent infection. Please check with your company or school about whether or not you can go to work or school.

Precautions in daily life for those who had close contact

Please keep the following in mind.

  • Please refrain from going out, going to school, or going to work unless it is absolutely necessary. You can go shopping for food and other necessities for daily life, but please wear a mask and avoid crowded times.
  • Please avoid using public transportation as much as possible.
  • Please practice cough etiquette (use of mask) and wash your hands frequently.
  • Please take your temperature twice a day and monitor your physical condition carefully.
  • When throwing away tissues or masks with runny nose, etc., be sure to tie the mouth of the garbage bag tightly and seal it, and wash your hands thoroughly after throwing away the garbage.
  • You can wash your clothes as usual.

About PCR test
