Guidance for people who have been in close contact
Health observation period
The health observation period for close contacts is either [the day of onset of a positive person (the day of testing if there are no symptoms)] or [the day when infection control measures (*1) are taken in the residence due to the onset of a positive person]. The health observation period will be 5 days counting from the day after the later date.
However, if another family member in the household becomes positive, the health observation period will be 5 days counting from the day after the onset of symptoms (in case of no symptoms, the test day).
In addition, using an antigen qualitative test kit (external diagnostic reagent), tests will be performed on the second and third days, and if a negative result is confirmed, the waiting period can be canceled from the third day.
(*1) Infection control refers to the following measures that can be taken in daily life.
- wearing a mask
- Implementation of hand washing and hand disinfection
- Avoid sharing supplies, implement disinfection, etc.
*For details, please refer to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government website (opens in a new window) .
How to spend the health observation period
During the health observation period, please refrain from going out to work, school, kindergarten, nursing care, welfare services, etc. (It is possible to work from home and take classes at home without contact with other people.) Also, you cannot use public transportation. If you must go out for shopping, be sure to wear a mask, avoid crowds, and do it in a short amount of time.
About inspection
Currently, at medical institutions in Tokyo, if there is a history of contact and the doctor determines that the test is necessary, the cost of the test will be borne by the public fund. However, there will be costs such as the initial consultation fee and technical fee, so please check with the medical institution over the phone before visiting.
In order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, please be sure to contact a medical institution in advance and inform them of your contact history and symptoms before visiting a doctor.
*Currently, in order to alleviate the concentration of testing and consultations at medical institutions, those who have been in close contact with the patient are asked to self-test with an antigen qualitative test kit before visiting a medical institution. We are distributing test kits free of charge to those who have had close contact with the virus .
For details, please see the test kit application site for those who have been in close contact (opens in new window) (opens in new window).
Those with symptoms
Please be sure to contact your family doctor or a nearby medical institution in advance and seek medical attention immediately. If you don't have a family doctor or don't know which medical institution is doing the test, please get a referral to a medical institution with the Tokyo Fever Consultation Center medical institution guidance dial below, or check the list of medical institutions for medical examinations and examinations . .

Even if the test result is [negative], the health observation period will not change.
I meet the definition of a close contact person, but I haven't been contacted by the public health center
Please monitor your own health and see a doctor if necessary. The required period of health observation and actions during the period are the same as above. If you feel unwell, please be sure to contact your family doctor or a nearby medical institution in advance and see a doctor. In addition, even if the test result is [negative], the health observation period will not change.
