Local Welfare Officer/Children's Commissioner

We introduce activity of local welfare officer, children's committee

With local welfare officer, children's committee

Welfare commissioners also serve as children's commissioners, and are commissioned by the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare on the recommendation of people who are familiar with the actual situation in the region and work without remuneration. Currently, Minato Ward is divided into five districts (Shiba district, Takanawa district, Azabu district, Akasaka Aoyama district, Shibaura Konan district) and conducts activities according to the actual conditions of each region.
In most cases, they work within their assigned area, but there are also chief children's committee members who specialize in child welfare without having an assigned area. In cooperation with schools/educational institutions, child consultation centers, and child and family support centers, we cooperate and respond to problems such as bullying, abuse, and refusal to attend school.

As a local advisor

Local welfare officers and children's commissioners are obligated to maintain confidentiality. We are also obligated to always respect the personality of each individual. We listen to their concerns, understand their needs, provide the necessary information, connect them to appropriate organizations, and work with them.

Local welfare officer, children's committee activity situation (as of December 1, 2022)

Currently, 136 committee members are active in Minato Ward (constant number of 158 members). If there is a vacancy in the local welfare officer in the area in charge, each district general branch office will respond to the survey of the elderly living alone, the presentation of Kotobuki gift certificates, etc. Elderly counseling centers and neighborhood committee members are cooperating to monitor local communities. When there is individual consultation, we perform introduction to neighborhood committee and introduction to appropriate organization depending on the contents.

*For the committee member in charge of your area, please contact the Health and Welfare Section of the Citizens Section of each district general branch office.
