Close contact definition

The National Institute of Infectious Diseases Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Center's "Proactive epidemiological survey implementation guidelines for new coronavirus infectious disease patients" states as follows. Shibuya Ward uses a similar definition.

A person who lived with a patient (confirmed) or had contact with the patient for a long time (including in a car or airplane) A person who examined, nursed, or cared for a patient without appropriate protection against infection Contamination of the patient's respiratory secretions or body fluid A person who may have touched an object directly A person who has been in contact with a patient for more than 15 minutes without the necessary infection control at a distance that can be touched (approximately 1 meter)

Please refer to the following when judging close contacts at hospitals and welfare facilities.

Close contact selection target

  • Even if both are wearing masks, care with physical contact has accumulated for more than 10 minutes
  • If either person is in physical contact without wearing a mask or if there is a conversation within 1.5 meters
  • If you don't know how to wear a mask
  • Insufficient PPE (personal protective equipment) or hand sanitizer
  • If neither of you is wearing a mask
  • Prolonged contact (generally more than 1 hour) within 1.5 meters in an environment without two-way ventilation

Please refer to the following depending on the attributes of the positive person (staff, user, etc.).

If the user/patient is positive

  • roommate
  • Seating within 1.5 meters during meals
  • Someone you know personally and are on good terms with
  • Staff performing physical contact care with insufficient PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

If a staff member tests positive

  • Patients and users who provide direct physical care
  • Meal breaks are at the same timing, staff within 1.5 meters
  • A seat next to the person among the participants of the meeting held for 15 minutes or longer in a place without two-way ventilation

Management of close contacts

Please follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare for infection control in the facility.
If you are selected as a close contact person, please take the following measures to prevent the spread of infection.

  • The admission facility conducts PCR/antigen tests on all close contacts as much as possible
  • If the first symptom is a patient or user and the route of infection is unknown, staff screening tests are recommended.
  • Check body temperature at least twice a day for close contacts
  • For users and patients who have been in close contact, if possible, keep a private room for 7 days after contact with a positive person (if it is difficult, avoid contact with non-contact people), and use PPE (personal protective equipment). do

Management of people other than close contacts

If you have contact with a positive person but are not a close contact person, we recommend that you observe your health for 7 days after contact.

When expanding the selection of close contacts or changing the criteria

If an admitted or hospitalized patient with a history of contact with a patient who was not considered as a close contact became positive for the new coronavirus, or if an admitted or hospitalized patient with an unknown route of infection became positive for the new coronavirus, the current close contact Please expand the selection of contacts and reconfirm the criteria as the range setting is insufficient.

Review of close contact range

  1. All those who fall under the scene of contact between the above-mentioned positive person and the index patient
  2. All who were in contact with the new positive person and the first patient for the same time, but were excluded from close contacts
