About Itabashi Ward Specified Infertility Treatment Cost Subsidy

Infertility treatment will be covered by insurance from April 2022. For details, please see the websites of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. (There is a link at the bottom.)

Grant overview

For those who have received approval for the "Tokyo Specified Infertility Treatment Cost Subsidy Project", treatment costs not covered by insurance (documentation fees and treatment costs covered by insurance) for specific infertility treatment (in vitro fertilization and microinsemination) ) will be subsidized. Subsidies are also available for medical expenses related to the testicular sperm biopsy collection method implemented by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

Those who can apply (eligibility requirements)

  4. Those who have not received the same type of subsidy from other municipalities for the same specific infertility treatment

At the end of 2021, the conventional "Tokyo Specified Infertility Treatment Cost Subsidy Project" ended, but for those who are still undergoing treatment as of April 1, 2022, transitional measures ( from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2023) will be applied.

Details of the subsidy

1 Details of the grant

  1. 50,000 yen or 25,000 yen per treatment, depending on the treatment stage Help as an upper limit.
    • Treatment stage [A, B, D, E] 50,000 yen
    • Treatment stage [C, F] 25,000 yen
  2. Subsidies will be provided up to an upper limit of 50,000 yen out of the actual expenses after deducting the subsidy amount related to the testicular sperm biopsy collection method approved by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government from the applicable medical expenses for male infertility treatment.
    • Male infertility treatment 50,000 yen

[Reference] Treatment stage

  • A: Perform fresh embryo transfer
  • B: Frozen embryo transfer (if the treatment is based on the initial treatment policy of preparing the condition of the mother at intervals after egg collection and fertilization and then performing the embryo transfer)
  • C: Embryo transfer performed with previously frozen embryos
  • D: Treatment completed due to lack of prospects for transplantation due to poor physical condition, etc.
  • E: Failure to fertilize, abortion due to aborted embryo division, degeneration, abnormal fertilization of polyspermy, etc.
  • F: Egg retrieval but no eggs were obtained, or eggs in good condition were not obtained, so the procedure was canceled
  • Male Fertility Treatment:
    Intrathecal sperm biopsy (TESE), epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA), percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA), intratesticular sperm aspiration (TESA) , including those who did not proceed to specific infertility

(Note: 1) For the target age, the base date is the start date of treatment at the time of the initial application for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Subsidy.

(Note: 2) The age in the number of subsidies is based on the start date of treatment at the time of application for each subsidy.

  1. "Itabashi Ward Specified Infertility Treatment Subsidy Application and Invoice"
  2. A copy of the "notice of decision to approve specific infertility treatment subsidies" issued by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government
  3. A copy of the "Specific Infertility Treatment Expense Subsidy Program Consultation Certificate" submitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government
  4. A copy of the “testicular sperm biopsy collection method, etc. certificate” submitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government
  5. If your spouse's resident registration is outside the city or if you have not registered your marriage, documents such as your family register

Note: One application/billing form is required for each treatment. Please download the application form and invoice form from the attached file below, or visit the Itabashi Ward Women's Health Support Center on the 1st floor of the Itabashi Ward Public Health Center, the Health Promotion Section on the 3rd floor of the Ward Office, and the health departments of Itabashi, Kami-Itabashi, Akatsuka, Shimura, and Takashimadaira. We distribute at window of welfare center.

Notes on application procedures

  1. Applicants must write their own by referring to the entry example.
  2. Do not use erasable ballpoint pens, pencils, correction fluid, or correction tape.
  3. Required documents 3 and 4 above are documents to be submitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for grant application. Please make a copy before submitting to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
  4. If you do not have 2, 3, and 4 of the above required documents, please refer to the "Q&A regarding specific infertility treatment expenses subsidy project (Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Social Welfare and Public Health)" on the website of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Social Welfare and Public Health. It is possible to send a copy or to have the certificate reissued.
  5. After applying, the person in charge may contact you to confirm the documents. Please enter a phone number (such as a mobile phone) at which you can be reached between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Grant decision and grant disbursement

Applicants will be notified of the grant decision by mailing the “Notification of Decision to Grant Specific Infertility Treatment Expenses in Itabashi Ward”. The subsidy will be transferred to your designated account. (Please note that it takes about 3 months from application to transfer.)
