What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)?
An AED is a medical device that delivers an electric shock (electrocardioversion) when the heart suddenly stops (ventricular fibrillation) and attempts to restore the function of the heart.
From July 2004, even those without qualifications such as doctors and nurses can use it.
How to use AED
This is a device that delivers an electric shock to a patient with cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation to restore normal heart movement.
In addition to explaining the operation procedure by voice guidance, it also warns of precautions.
Note: Before using the AED, check for consciousness and breathing.
- Open the lid of the AED. (AED will explain the operation procedure with voice guidance)
- Attach the electrode pads directly to the chest of the victim of cardiac arrest.
- AED analyzes the electrocardiogram waveform and determines whether an electric shock is necessary.
-
When the AED determines that a shock is required, press the shock button.
Note: If the AED determines no shock is required, pressing the shock button will not deliver a shock.
Placement of AED
In Itabashi Ward, AEDs are installed in the ward office, regional centers, cultural and educational facilities, sports facilities, health and welfare facilities, elderly facilities, children's facilities, educational facilities, and other ward facilities.

In addition, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has notified us of the 2015 Guideline for the Emergency Resuscitation Act (for citizens), including how to use AEDs.
(It is updated every 5 years and becomes the latest version.)
Therefore, in order to update the installation registration information in a timely and appropriate manner and improve its reliability, please register with the AED installation registration information on the nationwide AED map managed by the Japan Foundation for Emergency Medicine.
