Effects of influenza vaccine
- Influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by the influenza virus, and the incubation period from infection to onset is 2 to 3 days.
- When the disease develops, systemic symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, and myalgia suddenly appear. Many of the respiratory symptoms such as stuffy nose, sore throat, and cough appear later than systemic symptoms, and if there are no complications such as pneumonia or encephalopathy, they resolve within a week.
- The flu vaccine is said to be effective in suppressing the onset of influenza in about 50% of the elderly, and even those who have been vaccinated may contract influenza.
- For prevention methods other than vaccination, please proceed to lifestyle habits to prevent infectious diseases .
- It takes about two weeks for the person to develop resistance to influenza after receiving the vaccination, and the effect is said to last for about five months.
- Influenza viruses often change their antigenicity little by little, and vaccine strains are selected each year based on epidemic forecasts (National Institute of Infectious Diseases). influenza vaccine strain ). Therefore, it is effective to get vaccinated every year. In general, the elderly are effective with one vaccination per winter.
