Announcement of the results of the public-private partnership "Osteoporosis Awareness Project (Disease Awareness Commons)"

Implementation of “Osteoporosis Disease Awareness Project (Disease Awareness Commons)” through public-private partnership

On November 25, 2020, Osaka City signed an agreement with Cancer Scan Co., Ltd. and Amgen Co., Ltd. regarding the "Public-Private Partnership Osteoporosis Disease Awareness Project (Disease Awareness Commons)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Tripartite Agreement"). We have been working on countermeasures against osteoporosis, which is one of the major causes that hinder healthy life expectancy.

Osteoporosis is not simply bone aging, but a disease in which bones become fragile and prone to fracture due to abnormal bone metabolism. Fractures caused by osteoporosis are called "vulnerability fractures," and fractures of the spine and thigh bones are especially common, and this is one of the causes that hinders healthy life expectancy. Osteoporosis, which causes these fragility fractures, is a common disease among elderly women, but young people and men also suffer from it. Once a fragility fracture occurs, it is known that the risk of "secondary fracture", which causes a chain reaction of subsequent fractures in a short period of time, is extremely high. The number of osteoporosis patients in Japan is estimated to be about 12.8 million (1 in 3 people over the age of 65), but about 2 million people are receiving treatment because they are asymptomatic. It is said that there is only one.

This tripartite agreement promotes awareness of osteoporosis and encourages people who have not yet started treatment for osteoporosis to receive treatment to prevent secondary fractures despite having experienced a bone fracture. This agreement was concluded with the aim of preventing fragility fractures and extending healthy life expectancy. It has been compiled and will be published.

This report has been prepared by Cancer Scan Co., Ltd. based on a "Tripartite Agreement".

We hope that this project will be of assistance in projects aimed at extending healthy life expectancy. Osaka City will continue to explore activities aimed at extending the healthy life expectancy of its citizens.
